KADENA AIR BASE, OKINAWA, JAPAN- During Typhoon Neoguri, strong winds and flooding devastated our area. To help new military families arriving on our island, the American Red Cross on Kadena Air Base will host a“Prepare and Share Typhoon Readiness Drive” from July 28- August 11.

We will be collecting items to prepare disaster kits for military members and their families who have recently PCS’d to Okinawa and have yet to experience a typhoon.   We are asking for members of our military community to donate items that they found helpful during the last typhoon, such as: duct tape, flashlights, work gloves, tarps, bottled water, batteries, non-perishable food items, first aid kits and anything else people thought was helpful to have on hand during the storm.

The success of this event relies on our community to come together and help others.  After Neoguri, there was an overwhelming amount of kind-hearted people looking to do what they could.  Unfortunately, there was not much that could be done at that time. But there is now!

The Red Cross is located in Building 6800 between Jack’s Place and Gate 1 on Kadena Air Base. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
