U.S. Air Force Col. Thomas Torkelson, 18th Wing vice commander, answers questions from Stearly Heights Elementary students about a proclamation initiating 2014 Fire Prevention Week on Kadena Air Base, Japan, Oct. 15, 2014. "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month" is the theme for Fire Prevention Week 2014. Fire Prevention Week is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of fire safety. During fire prevention week, the fire department will sponsor activities for children across the base to educate children and their parents on fire prevention and detection.
