KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa – Sean Finnegan rushed for the game’s only touchdown on a quarterback sneak and the Kadena defense held from there as the Dragons shut out defending champion Kinser 8-0 Saturday in U.S. Forces Japan-American Football League action.

With the victory, the Dragons improved to 3-0 and are a game ahead of Hansen atop the USFJ-AFL standings at the regular season’s halfway mark. Hansen downed last-place Foster 20-6 Saturday and is 2-1. Kinser is 1-2 and Foster winless at 0-3.

Finnegan totaled 79 offensive yards and Emmanuel Griffin racked up 91, 81 coming on 11 carries. Ralphael Jones chipped in with 36 yards on 11 carries. Terrell Dixon Jr. added 80 all-purpose yards.

It was the defensive line that controlled things much of the way for the Dragons, said defensive coordinator Butch McCarty. Among Troy Evans’ four tackles was one that took down the Kings’ punter in the end zone for a safety.

Salem Morris had three tackles for losses, including a 20-yard quarterback sack that took Kinser out of scoring position. Matt Hensell had a fumble recovery for the second straight game.

For Hansen, Clinton Ransom rushed 16 times for 71 yards and scored all three touchdowns. Brian Marquez booted two extra points and caught three passes for 48 yards. Tyler Guillory had 66 yards on eight carries.

On defense, Jamal Williams had eight tackles, David Torza had five tackles and two pass deflections and Terrance Gray picked off two passes.
