Kubasaki High School students, alumni gathered for 50th anniversary
OKINAWA, Japan — More than 50 Kubasaki High School alumni from all over the world came together to celebrate the school’s 50th year since moving to permanent buildings in the Zukeran area.
Several generations, past and present, began the collaboration with a special video showcasing the school’s history. Kubasaki High School began in 1946 as Okinawa University Dependent’s School, graduating their first students on June 13, 1947. In those days, students studied in temporary structures called quonset huts and moved from Awase in 1952 to an area called Kubasaki, then moving again in 1957 to Naha before finally settling at its current location in 1964. Current students gave tours of the campus, which is still in use today. The celebration was especially sentimental as construction of the new Kubasaki High School campus is scheduled to begin in a few years at a nearby location.
