Come join us as we go “Under the Sea” with the Pacific Okinawa Players youth production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. This Disney and Broadway classic is brought to life by 39 of the island’s young performers in the military and SOFA community.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the young mermaid princess, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking. This story originally taken from one of Hans Christian Anderson’s most beloved tales, made the journey to ‘classic’ in the Disney canon in 1989 and then adapted from screen to stage in 2007. Our story is directly adapted from the original Broadway production and illuminates the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

At the helm of the ship is POPs’ Artistic Director; Christine Smith. Assisting her in direction is Kelly Dolan. Making up the rest of the production team we have several POPs veteran volunteers and a few newbies: Morgan England (Stage Manager), Melanie Bales (Music Director), Amy Pastoor (Choreographer), Gary Hughes (Light Design), Randall Pickens (Set Construction), Anne Rogers (Costumes), Stephanie Sullivan (Props), and Kiana Lewis (Assistant Stage Manager).

Performances run from May 18-20 and 25-27 and will be held in the Camp Foster Community Center Theatre. Tickets are on sale on our website: Pacificokinawaplayers.org now, and can also be purchased from Cast Members or at the Camp Foster Community Center theatre during rehearsals (5-7pm Mon, Wed, & Thursdays). We recommend getting your tickets soon, before they’re gone. Don’t be a ‘Poor Unfortunate Soul’ caught without a chance to see this wonderful/colorful classic brought to life.

POPs community theatre is committed to providing quality live theatre experiences for all SOFA members on Okinawa. For more information about our shows or to volunteer visit our website.
