Yokota AB, Japan — The 374th Force Support Squadron (FSS), in a joint effort with the Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific, will host the annual Far East Culinary Arts competition on 5 February from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Taiyo Community Center. High school students from the surrounding Pacific area will once again converge on Yokota AB to vie for the winning title.

The 374th FSS will assist with organizing the event by providing supplies, equipment and a location for the competition.

Teams representing EJ King, Kinnick, Kadena, Kubasaki, Seoul American and Edgren High School culinary programs will have one hour to prepare a three-course meal using only two butane burners. Teams are judged by culinary professionals from Yokota AB on their knife skills, teamwork, sanitation, menu presentation, and taste. The winning team qualifies for the National ProStart Invitational® which will be held April 18-20 in Anaheim, CA.

The Far East Culinary Arts Competition is an extension of DoDEA’s Career Technical Education (CTE) program and provides an opportunity for students to showcase their preparedness for college and careers after leaving high school.

The competition is open to anyone with base access and admission to view the competition is free.
