Pacific Spotlight: Dennis Sherrod
Dennis Sherrod, Education Specialist, has been helping Soldiers, Families and civilians achieve their education goals at Torii Station since 2006. Sherrod gave his final brief June 22 at the Education Center and will be starting several small business ventures in the area.
“Of course, I plan on increasing my golfing and fishing activities,” said Sherrod. “I Love Okinawa.”
Sherrod said that the best part about helping Soldiers and Family members navigate the educational waters has been seeing the fruits of their hard work pay off.
“Having military service members and Veterans reaching out years later and thanking me for my assistance means more to me than any other gratuity or recognition received from managers and supervisors,” said Sherrod.
Jim J. Lovato, Army Substance Abuse Program Manager and Education Services Officer said that Sherrod’s dozens of years of experience has been invaluable to the Garrison and those seeking to broaden their intellectual horizons.
“The Education Center has always been that first critical step in transitioning Soldiers to Civilians, either by helping them to complete a degree or moving the Soldier from enlisted to officer,” said Lovato. The Education Center is that bridge to a higher education and a better way of life. Mr. Sherrod has been there to shape many Soldiers’ lives throughout his career and many of those Soldiers owe him a gratitude of thanks for changing their lives.
