SHES/KES Kindness Rally Feb. 15
The annual SHES/KES Kindness Rally will be held February 15th at the Bong Drive Baseball Diamond. All students and staff from Stearley Heights ES and our sister school, Kadena Elementary, will participate. The rally will feature the combined voices of over 1,000 students and staff singing the theme song chosen for this year's rally "Stand By Me,” the classic 1962 hit by Ben E. King.
The students have been practicing the song in classes with Choral/Music teacher Mrs. Wendy Miller. The annual rally is held every year in honor of The National Random Acts of Kindness Movement. All of the students and staff will walk to the location from both schools. The rally will also feature a kindness themed cheer and a kindness pledge to be taken by everyone present. An interpretive dance routine by girls in Mrs. Rice's 5th grade class will be performed to the inspirational song "Rise Up” by pop star Andra Day. The school principals of SHES, Mr. David Burkett and Mrs. Gail Wiley, will provide opening remarks at the annual rally. Counseling team Mrs. Jill Beard Archie, Dr. Jacqueline Winn, Ms. Angela Morrison, and Mr. Richard Wirsich are sponsoring and coordinating the kindness rally and daily events. Each day of Kindness Week, starting on Feb.11th, features a different theme with various activities at both schools.
Children are writing letters and Valentines to unaccompanied military members. They are also creating a paperchain to feature notes of individual acts of kindness by the students. This colorful visual reminder stretches down the school corridors and serves to symbolically document all the kind acts students are engaged in. National Random Acts of Kindness Day is observed February 17th.
