A great online aid for PCSing
Hello Military Community,
As I was pondering what to post this week; I received an email from Cameron Allison, A Navy wife who is the founder of www.MilitaryTownAdvisor.com. A wonderful tool for military families to use during PCS (permanent change of station) travels.
As many military families experience multiple communities throughout their service member’s career it is always helpful to have as many resources as possible to help make that transition easier. So this week I would like to highlight this resource and post Cameron’s email. If you know of a resource that can help another military family, shoot me an email and I would love to highlight it for you. Thanks Cameron, great job and a great resource. Thank you for your family’s service and sacrifices.
Best wishes from my families to yours,
I wanted to share with you a new site I created almost a year ago to help military families and I was hoping you would consider making it a resource link on your site. I am a Navy spouse and after a tough PCS to Virginia Beach, Va., I came up with the idea for www.MilitaryTownAdvisor.com. I didn't know the good areas to look for a house, and I wanted to know the neighborhoods that were safe, family friendly, and I wanted other military families to live near me.
So I created MilitaryTownAdvisor.com’ which is a site for military families to leave insider information about their neighborhoods and areas of town. Here is an example of a review:
Family friendly neighborhood close to NAS Oceana
Great neighborhood consisting of condos and single family homes (from about 2,000 sqft - 3,600 sqft). Fenced yards are the norm. Many military families choose to live here (both based at NS Norfolk and NAS Oceana-though it is about 2.5 miles from front door to the back gate). All the streets are tree lined and have sidewalks. Biking distance to the VB Rec Center, restaurants, schools, bars, VB library, base. Less than 15-minutes drive to the commissary. About 6 miles to Dam Neck base beaches and less than 20 minutes to the VB Oceanfront Boardwalk.
• Military Demographic: Both
• Pet Friendly:
Pros: 1) Beautiful neighborhood that is well kept 2) Minutes from NAS Oceana and commissary/NEX 3) Jet noise 4) Great location near 'everything'
Cons: Jet noise 1) Homes are not on the market long here (from buyer/renter perspective)
Most people don't know that real estate agents can't tell you this information due to the Fair Housing Act so before this site, it was very difficult for military families during their house hunt. If you'd like to know more, visit militarytownadvisor.com/about/about.php.
Soon I will be adding “GreatSchools” data and a Home search function so you can search homes within a specific neighborhood or zip code. This is a research tool to help you understand where the safe neighborhoods are in a new military town.
Anyways, please check it out and if you feel it is something your readers can benefit from, please consider adding a link on your site.
