KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa – Terrell Dixon passed and rushed for a touchdown and Matthew Woods returned a kick 85 yards for a score as defending champion Kadena shut out Foster 19-0 on Saturday at Kadena’s McDonald Stadium.

With the win, the Dragons opened the 17th U.S. Forces Japan-American Football League season and took a step toward defending the first Torii Bowl title the team earned last season.
Brandon Avery led the Dragons with 121 all-purpose yards.

Kevin Cortez caught the TD pass from Dixon. Kadena’s defense recorded six sacks for 56 yards in losses and the offense recorded 311 total yards.

Andre Hilton forced a fumble, Darnell Hobson and Jay Darden each intercepted passes and Casey Bowens recovered a fumble.

Foster also had its share of defensive stars. Towand Hill intercepted a pass, Tyler Culp recorded two sacks and Derek Williams added another. Paul Shaver was 4-for-9 for 45 yards for the Bulldogs.

In Saturday’s other opener, Kinser downed Hansen 20-8 behind quarterback Dallas Sargeant’s big day, a 29-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Mathis and 145 yards total offense. DeQuan Clark rushed for 130 yards, including a 65-yarder to open the game.

Jathan Sales, playing on both sides of the ball, rushed 20 yards for a touchdown and had six tackles, one for a loss on fourth down that helped secure the win. Abrian Favors forced a fumble and had a sack along with Cody Walter. Theo Bush recovered a fumble.

Shijuan Rogers paced the Wolfpack on both sides of the ball in the losing cause. He had an interception, two sacks and three tackles and scored the only touchdown on a 60-yard pass from Shane Geitgey. Brandon Eto caught two Geitgey passes for 70 yards.
