Kadena tops Hansen in military football
KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa – Alejandro Black had a sack, a forced fumble and eight tackles, four for losses, and Andre Hilton and Darnell Hobson intercepted passes as Kadena shut out Hansen 14-0 Saturday.
The win boosted the Dragons, 30-12 winners last week over Foster, to 2-0 and first place in the U.S. Forces Japan-American Football League. Hansen, which opened with a 31-0 win over defending champion Kinser, dropped to 1-1.
Punting and kicking also played big for the Dragons. Terrell Dixon Jr. hit many a punt that forced the Wolf Pack to start deep in its own territory. Center Jason Bodie, kicking for the first time, hit two extra points.
“Special teams was key in this game and they deserve a steak dinner,” Kadena coach Jermaine Baker said.
Brandon Avery had five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Manny Griffin had 43 yards on four catches and 36 yards on six carries. Ralphael Jones ran 11 times for 81 yards and a score.
Saturday’s game was the first in league history played at Kadena High School’s Upper Field. The main high school field was hosting a track meet, while Ryukyu Middle School is reserved for high-school soccer through mid-May.
