Okinawa Marine missing off Guam coast identified

USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6), At Sea – Marine Corps officials have identified the Marine who went missing while swimming near Tumon Bay while on liberty in Guam as Pfc. Joshua J. Stewart, 20, of Sutter Creek, California.

The search continues for Stewart, who went missing at approximately 5:00 p.m. (Guam), Aug. 9, after being swept out to sea. 

The Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Navy are working in coordination with the Guam Fire Department to search the area where Stewart went missing. Aerial and surface search teams are involved in the search.

The Marine is part of Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Okinawa Japan. The Marine was embarked on the USS Green Bay (LPD-20).
