Trump, Kim make history with first-ever US-N.Korean summit

SINGAPORE — Starting with a handshake, President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made history Tuesday as they began their unprecedented summit aimed at staving off the threat of nuclear war.

The two leaders walked toward each other and shook hands in front of a row of American and North Korean flags after entering the Capella Hotel on Singapore’s Sentosa Island.

They smiled for the cameras before beginning the first-ever summit between a North Korean leader and a sitting U.S. president.

The leaders began with a private meeting with only translators present. They were to be joined later by their respective advisers before holding a working lunch.
