Having relatives or friends coming to Okinawa for the holidays? If so, please ensure that they have proper medical insurance or travel insurance. If they are seen at USNHO they will be billed. If they can't pay, the Active Duty sponsor may be responsible for the bill.

Whether we’re visiting friends or family or just heading somewhere to just get away, for many of us the holiday season means travel. But keep in mind that this time of year is also flu season. Getting vaccinated against influenza is one of the easiest and most effective means of protecting yourself and your family. You can get your flu vaccination (or any other necessary immunizations) at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa Immunizations Department (646-7598), located on the 2nd floor of the hospital. You can come in Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Here’s some important information from USNHO about medical care while on leave:
- Routine care is generally not authorized outside of the TRICARE enrollment region (TRICARE Overseas). All routine care must be prior authorized.
- For urgent care requests, patients should call Medical Home during business hours to request a referral. After business hours, call International SOS TRICARE (1-877-678-1208).
- Seek emergency care immediately. Contact International SOS TRICARE (1-877-678-1208) within 24 hours after Emergency Room care.
- Remember to bring any CONUS medical reports back with you.
If you have questions, you can contact the TRICARE Beneficiary Service Representatives (BSR) at 646-7700 or the Beneficiary Counseling Assistance Coordinator (BCAC) at 646-7701. You can visit the TRICARE office located on the 1st floor of the hospital from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Patients with questions regarding the referral processes prior to leaving for CONUS can call Referral Management at 646-7330.
NOTE: If calling from off-base or a cell phone you’ll dial 098-971 then the last four digits for all USNHO numbers.
