Enjoy great beachside grub
Uraniwa restaurant offers a chance to dine on authentic Japanese and Okinawan cuisine while kicking back with a sunset and relaxing ocean breeze in Chatan.
Located right in front of Araha Beach, this place is a perfect hangout for the many folks from Camp Foster and Kadena Air Base that frequent the area.
Uraniwa’s menu includes a variety of fresh catch-of-the-day seafood and Okinawa favorites like “goya champuru” (stir-fried vegies with bitter melon), Okinawan soba noodles and – everybody’s favorite – taco rice.
Some of the other popular dishes include grilled specialties such as grade-A4 Motobu beef steaks for just 2,100 yen ($17.50), Uraniwa’s Special Steak (1,600 yen) and grilled shrimp (1,280 yen).
There are also plenty of choices for tasty sides and appetizers to go with your drinks like handmade pizza and sushi rolls. They even have beef sushi made with quality Motobu beef.
To wash it all down, draft Orion beer is only 100 yen during happy hour, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. And keep an eye out for the occasional drink or food specials. Better yet, ask about them upon arrival.
Locals don’t come here just for the good food and drinks, they also come for the live music. Don’t miss weekly live performances with the three-stringed Okinawa “sanshin” on Tuesday nights, and the African “djembe” drum performance on Friday nights.
Uraniwa’s interior is that of a tropical Asian resort. With seating room for up to a hundred people, this is the perfect place to reserve for group parties and events. Parking is available.
Families with children are also welcome, and highchairs and a nursing area are available as well. And because Uraniwa is a second-floor beachfront establishment, you can’t lose with the gorgeous view its window and terrace seats afford. Staffers boast that this is the ideal spot for a romantic couple to watch a sunset or the scenic city skylines of Ginowan and Chatan.
Overall, you can’t go wrong with the view, diversity of food, variety of drinks and live music.
