Hang 10 with beachside Hawaiian-style shrimp
It is said Hawaii and Okinawa have a lot in common – tropical weather, vegetation, beachside beauty - which means Hawaiian food most likely suits those in Okinawa.
The taste of aloha is available at Bear’s Hawaiian Food located right in front of Araha Beach Park in Chatan. The beach-side restaurant with a Hawaiian feel and flavor, promises to serve up mouth-watering cuisine.
“When I visited Hawaii’s North Shore to surf about 25 years ago, I had the local garlic shrimp for the first time. And it was so good,” said Taiji Imaizumi, owner of Bear’s. “I could not forget the taste and I decided to cook by myself.”
So, of course, Imaizumi recommends his juicy Hawaiian-style garlic shrimp. It is deep fried with garlic and goes great with the restaurant’s original sauce. The Garlic Shrimp Combo Plate (800 yen) comes with white rice or bread and macaroni salad. For me, you can never go wrong with Ice cold Okinawan Orion beer and garlic shrimp, especially if it’s by the beach.
Another popular dish is Moa Moa Chicken Combo (750 yen), which is Bear’s version of Hawaiian huli huli chicken, which is grilled chicken slathered in a sweet teriyaki sauce. By the way, moa moa means chicken in Hawaiian.
Bear’s also serves up Loco Moco, another popular Hawaiian dish, featuring a hamburger patty, fried egg and brown gravy on the top of white rice. The combination of gravy and rice goes together perfectly.
Bear’s is casual joint that gives you the choice of dining inside the Hawaiian-style decorated establishment or taking you food outside to enjoy a picnic on the beach.
Because of its location, many customers come in with swimsuits, just like in Hawaii. It’s an ideal place to hang out with kids, friends, family and even pets. It’s a very carefree and relaxing place.
Imaizumi recommends dining during sunset, so you can enjoy the beautiful view while enjoying Bear’s tropical cocktails and tasty food.
The restaurant is located in Hanby Market, which includes many small restaurants and shops.
