Pull up a seat at Island Table on Henza Island
You will have many opportunities to eat when you visit the island triad of Ikei, Henza, and Hamahiga, but may I suggest Island Table for your next go, as it is easy to find and difficult to leave!
Located adjacent to the sea and fish market on Henza Island, just past the bridge to Hamahiga Island, you can believe the fish you’re eating for lunch was caught that morning before breakfast.
My daughter and I wanted to wash our hands first, and were directed outdoors, past the fisherman wrapping up the last of his fish. That was a great indicator of the freshness of the restaurant!
When we came back in, we chose the short table and lounge chairs, and our waitress promptly brought us the menu.
Offerings include seafood pizzas, pastas, and rice dishes. For an extra 350 yen you can add dessert and coffee, or soup and salad, though we hardly finished our main dishes without the added set.
The menu offers sixteen generous dishes, each with a picture and description in Japanese and English.
I ordered the Island Table Salad (Y1200), and when I dipped a piece of fried fish into their special creamy vinaigrette, my eyes rolled back in their sockets, I kid you not, it was so good! My daughter ordered the Seafood Spaghetti Carbonara (Y1200), which we also thoroughly enjoyed. Both dishes were huge, and included a nice variety of seafood. We finished the salad, but took most of the pasta home (I’m thinking about it in the fridge right now…)The giant windows make the interior bright and airy; with nine tables, a magazine rack, and some children’s toys, the restaurant is cheery and comfortable. Our meal was so tasty, we’re already planning our next sit-down at Island Table.
Directions: From Courtney/McTureous – Take 8 east towards White Beach, but stay left at the split onto 37 towards Ikei, Henza, and Hamahiga, then turn left onto the Sea Road bridge. After the stretch on the Sea Road, keep driving north on Henza. Just past the bridge 238 to Hamahiga (don‘t take it! stay on the road), you’ll see the red sign for Island Table on the right. Turn right at the sign, then the first left, and about a block down it’s the big (and only) building on the right. The restaurant is on the right end of the building.
