Futenma Marine named Volunteer of the Quarter

published: October 31, 2013

Congratulations to RPT Bradley Smith, our USO Pacific Volunteer of the Quarter from MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan!

RP2 Smith has been a USO Futenma volunteer for one year, and in that time has his lent his enthusiasm and leadership to support USO Futenma events such as the Quarterly Blood Drive  (steadily increasing the number of donors supporting the event), more patron participation in our Center’s  recreational activities, and more foot traffic in the Center.

Hailing from Reno, NV, RP2 Smith is passionate about volunteering and it’s contagious.  In addition to his regular duties as Religious Program Specialist on MCAS Futenma, RP2 Smith averages 25-30 hours a week in volunteering for the USO Futenma constantly reaching out to Marines, Sailors and Family Members to “get involved.”  With his genuine and warm interpersonal skill, RP2 Smith is more like a “big brother,” with whom all he comes in contact. Consequently, MCAS Futenma’s USO Volunteers, and Center foot traffic counts have risen by 50%, and 18% over the past nine months, respectively.

RP2 Smith always has a bright and cheerful smile on his face that makes our troops feel like they are truly at their home away from home.   He truly takes pride in all his volunteer work at the USO!

Many thanks to RP2 Smith, and to Center Manager, Freddie Cotton, for nominating this outstanding volunteer!
