Garrison Spotlight: Etsumi Kawahira
U.S. Army Garrison Okinawa Safety Program Administrator Etsumi Kawahira, at right, fits Safety Manager Phil Merchant with a respirator July 28 at Torii Station. Kawahira has been with the Garrison Safety Team for more than 6 years and works daily to improve the safety of Soldiers, Families and civilians.
"She keeps the Safety Team focused and prepared for their daily tasks and maintains the Command Safety Office battle rhythm," said Merchant. "Her knowledge of safety regulations and policies and her ability to check and double-check regulations and safety standards, makes her a valuable asset to the command Safety Team and to the U.S. Army Garrison-Okinawa Team," he said.
Kawahira responds to safety inquiries; plans and conducts training as a safety instructor, schedules safety engagements and assists Safety Inspectors.
Helping Garrison employees and other members of the U.S. Army Okinawa Team to conduct their jobs and missions safely is the most rewarding part of the job, said Kawahira.
