When did you first begin volunteering with the USO?

July 1st, 2014

How did you hear about us and what made you want to get involved with the USO?

I heard it during my JRC brief.   During high school I did a lot of volunteer service too, and I have found that helping in projects for others was a pretty nice experience.  Volunteering is also a good change in pace from office work.

How has your experience been so far?

My experience so far, has been awesome, I love volunteering at the USO, and I bring along other Marines, and they like it too, to the point that now that’s how we hang out together.

What have you found as your greatest strength as a volunteer?

Coordinating, delegating, and tasking other volunteers during the events that we help in.

What keeps you coming back?

The fun I have when working for the staff at the USO, the home environment they try to make for us, the trust they have on me, and the letters of recommendation we earn with our community service.

Do you have an inspirational story you can briefly tell us about?

I was born in Texas, but raised in Mexico, English is my second language, so every day I’m learning new stuff.  The more interaction I have with English speakers the better I get, and the USO has helped me a lot with building my confidence, also I try to teach the staff and volunteer Spanish expressions, then they teach me English expressions, and we have a good time with that.

Fun Fact about yourself:

I can mimic every Spanish accent from movies, for example, Zorro, or Esqueleto from Nacho Libre.
