Soldier named USO Volunteer of the Year
Congratulations to Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Gilboy for being awarded the USO'S 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award! His hard work and dedication in helping the USO exemplifies the USO’s 8 Core Values.
Ryan first started volunteering in Fort Lee, Virginia with the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers. Through the program he volunteered at the USO. Ryan stated, “From the very first day he knew wanted to continue to help the USO in any way he could.”
He truly enjoys giving back to the community. He spends his Friday evenings helping the passengers on the Patriot Express arriving to Okinawa. “I want to ensure others who PCS (Permanent Change of Station) to a foreign country are called by their name and have the best welcoming party possible.”
Ryan has assisted the center in numerous programs and special events to include the 18th FSS Tinsel Town Event, Pictures with Santa and the USO’s annual Super Bowl Event. When he is not volunteering, he enjoys activities that pumps his blood such as sky diving or mountain biking.
At the end of the interview Ryan encouraged his fellow service members to check out USO Kadena and all the volunteering opportunities available.
If you are interested in volunteering just like Ryan. Please register at volunteers.uso.org.
