Cpl. Lakhdar Belkadi, left, and Sgt. John Ayalaquinones look over a bridge at Shuri Castle, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 5, 2017. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s noncommissioned officers visited Shuri Castle and Kokusai Street during a tour designed to strengthen the Marines’ appreciation for Okinawan history and culture. Belkadi is a legal services specialist and Ayalaquinones is the administrative chief, both with the 31st MEU. As the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed unit, the 31st MEU’s air-ground-logistics team provides a flexible force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance operations, throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
