The 3rd Yomitan-Torii Cultural Exchange Program

by United States Army Garrison Okinawa
U.S. Army

On 17 June 2014, Mrs. Heidi Martinez, Mrs. Jennifer Toland and Mrs. Kristin Elkins from the Army on Okinawa attended the 3rd Yomitan-Torii Cultural Exchange Program held at the Toguchi Community Center. Spouses from Torii Station, Sobe Ward, Toguchi Ward, Oki Ward and Osoe Ward, learned how to properly wear a traditional yukata, followed by the handmade delicious desserts tasting and traditional Okinawan music performance led by the Toguchi Ward chief and ladies from the district. At the end, all participants danced together and enjoyed the incoming of the Japanese summer. This event helped everyone's mutual understanding through sharing a cultural heritage. The next event is scheduled on 15 July, and this time the U.S. Army will host them to show American culture.
