Did you know?: The Governor of Hawaii has an Okinawan and tie
Hawaii Governor David Ige was born to a family of Okinawa descent. His paternal grandparents were originally from Nishihara town on Okinawa’s main island. His surname, which is pronounced “Igei” in Japanese, is a common Okinawa surname. Governor Ige is the second person of Japanese descent, and first of Okinawan descent, to govern Hawaii.
