Among the past U.S. presidents, only Dwight D. Eisenhower and Bill Clinton have made a trip to Okinawa during their tenure. Eisenhower made a stop to Okinawa in 1960 as part of his tour to the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, and Hawaii. Clinton came to the island in 2000 for a summit. Richard Nixon came to Okinawa in 1953 when he was the Vice President under Eisenhower.
