There are many beach-cleaning events that draw hard working volunteers. CLEANPIC 2015, however, is like a sports event!

This year's event is Nov. 8 at Gala Aoiumi in Yomitan Village.

Teams will be competing against each other to collect as much trash as they can in a limited amount of time -  having fun with friends while cleaning up the community. Even better - every team walks away with a prize. The result: Motivated CLEANPICers collecting a lot more trash than your average cleanup.

Last year, participants collected 1,645 pounds of combustible waste and 700 bulky waste items. At CLEANPIC 2014, 200,000 yen ($1,680) was awarded to the first-place winning team, while second and third place winners took home 100,000 yen and 50,000 yen, respectively. There were many other prizes that went to all the other teams.

The participation fee is 5,000 yen per team. Each team should consist of five members. The event is limited to the first 100 teams that register.

This year, there is also a Kids' division for elementary school student teams of five. There is no fee for the Kids' division, which is limited to the first 20 teams to register.

Team entry forms must be submitted prior to the event. To register or learn more details, call 098-982-9988 or visit:
