CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan – U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Thomas W. Tabisz relieved his duties as the sergeant major of Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific – Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler, to Sgt. Maj. Brian R. Drechsler on Nov. 30.

Tabisz, having served with H&S Battalion for over a year and a half, has been assigned to 7th Communications Battalion where he will become the battalion sergeant major.

He spoke about his time as H&S Battalion sergeant major.

“H&S Battalion is a different animal because it has its footprint on every single camp on Okinawa,” said Tabisz. “Not being able to reach out and touch all those Marines, around 1,500 to be exact, makes the job frustrating, however, it forces me to get up and visit Marines personally and talk about their daily struggles or just to spread some leadership and mentorship.”

Drechsler, who is coming from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 466 and 1st Battalion, 8th Marines before that, says he looks forward to seeing how H&S Battalion effects the warfighters and the mission here in the Pacific.

“I am extremely humble to be your sergeant major,” said Drechsler. “I have been told by numerous leaders that H&S Battalion Marines and sailors do great things, and since I have been on deck, I have seen it thus far. So with that I say, ‘Get after it. Keep making yourself a better Marine day in and day out and keep grinding.’”
