III MEF Band presents holiday concert series Dec. 7-9
As Christmastime draws near, preoccupation with travel plans, gifts, and visiting with family tend to make “the most wonderful time of the year” the most stressful. Classic seasonal films, such as “A Christmas Carol” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” remind us of some of the deeper meaning of the holidays, which mean something just a little different for everyone.
This holiday season, the III MEF Band presents Sergeant Scrooge’s Okinawa Christmas, a musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” parodying military life, as the story’s protagonist, Sergeant Scrooge, realizes his true value as a Marine. Hosted by Sergeant Ryan Van Gosen, the program will feature many traditional and popular pieces, including “Christmastime is Here,” music from the film “The Polar Express,” “This Christmas,” and “O Holy Night.” The program concludes with an invitation to guests to sing along during Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival.”
This year’s Christmas Concert Series marks Sergeant Van Gosen’s second consecutive year as host. As the writer of this particular show, Sergeant Van Gosen hopes to convey to audiences that “Christmas isn’t about what you receive, it’s about what you’ve done and the impact you’ve made…and, of course, presents.”
