KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- U.S. service members, Japanese civic leaders and community members pick up litter during Operation Golden Gate 2 in Okinawa City, Japan, Aug. 2, 2026. The volunteer initiative brings together service members and local residents to clean and beautify the area surrounding Gate 2 Street, a bustling district just outside Kadena Air Base. Through consistent, hands-on involvement, U.S. service members continue to show that being good neighbors is not a one-day event, but an ongoing commitment, building long-term stability and strength between the U.S.-Japan alliance.
