It’s official! As of May 11, rainy season has started in Okinawa.

The declaration was made by the Okinawa Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) after the Amami islands were the first to start the season on May 10.

According to the regional headquarters, last year’s rainy season began on May 16 in Okinawa while the average date of the season’s beginning on the island is May 9.

Okinawa’s rain season runs through late June, so grab your raingear and get ready for the showers!
