For his promotion ceremony at Camp Butler on May 24, David Michael Jahn decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.

It was in Subic Bay, Philippines back in 1962, when Jahn’s grandfather, David E. Jahn, was promoted from ensign to lieutenant junior grade, his wife by his side. Jahn’s Navy service inspired David Michael Jahn to join the service in 2017.

Though his grandfather passed away in 2015, Jahn told his friend and photographer Samantha Evans that recreating this photo would be a great gift to him.

The newly promoted Lt. (j.g.) David Michael Jahn has been stationed in Okinawa since 2019.
