A Marine with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Maritime Raid Force supervises Marines treading water during a reconnaissance screening at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 27, 2017. MRF specializes in reconnaissance from the sea, vessel Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, and limited combat operations as the reconnaissance force of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 31st MEU provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance, throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region as the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU.
