Members of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary recently received the United States Commandant Letter of Commendation for their efforts in saving the lives of boaters while conducting on-the-water patrols in the Delta and on Lake Berryessa. The award was given for “an act of service resulting in unusual and/or outstanding achievement.” (Commander E.L. Lynn USCG District Eleven North)

While on patrol at Lake Berryessa the crew came to the aid of a boater who fell off his pontoon boat in the middle of the lake unable to return to his boat thus endangering his life. In the Delta, the crew found an unconscious boater lying in her canoe who had been stranded for two days in the shoreline reeds. Because of their training and situational awareness, the crews executed successful rescues. Congratulations to Glenn Hunter, Randy McCormick of Solano County, Bob Gallup, Craig Hartman and Thomas Sarnicola, of Contra Costa County, Curtis Han and Charles Pina of Napa County, and John Hardin of Sacramento. Members also conduct safety patrols in San Pablo Bay.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 as the civilian volunteer unit supporting the active duty, except direct law enforcement and promoting boating safety. Membership is open to anyone over the age of seventeen. Prior military experience is not required. For more information go to: join.cgaux.org or call 510-685-5146.

June 30, 2018 is scheduled for the 2nd United States Coast Guard Auxiliary’s charity golf event, “AMERICA’S MARITIME GUARDIANS”, at Chardonnay Golf Course, American Canyon CA.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939 as a non-profit civilian volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard. Our members are involved in activities that keep our waterways safe and support maritime security throughout the United States. Corporate sponsorships are available. Price per golfer is $85. Or you can honor a service member past and present by sponsoring an "Honor Sign" that will be displayed at the event ($30 per name).
