Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in Okinawa, Japan receives 4th Chapter of the Year Award

Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

The Brothers of Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. located in Okinawa, Japan were recognized for their outstanding service to the local, district and international communities during the Omega Year from November 1, 2017 – October 31, 2018. The 13th District Representative Trevor Hodge presented the following awards to Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter at the 26th  Annual 13th International District Meeting held in Atlantic City, New Jersey on July 10 – 11, 2019:

Citizen of the Year Award – Marie Antoinette Banks

The Citizen of the Year is selected each year from outstanding citizens nominated for unique contributions to humanity. The nominee should be a person of local, regional and International recognition and who are acclaimed by a significant segment of society for outstanding contributions to the welfare of mankind. Members  of the Fraternity are not eligible for the Citizen of the Year Award.

Col. Charles Young Military Leadership Award – Courtney Arnold

Colonel (Bro) Charles Denton Young was elected the second honorary member of the Fraternity on March 8, 1912. Colonel Young, the highest ranking African-American officer in the military at the time of his death, died in Africa on January 2, 1922. Colonel Young was highly respected by the brothers and today is still regarded as a great military leader and a role model for all Omega Men.

Founders’ Lifetime Achievement Award – John Smith

The nominee for the Founders’ Lifetime Achievement Award should be a Brother who exhibits the highest ideals of Omega’s Four Cardinal Principles - Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. The Brother should be recognized for his contributions to the Fraternity at the Chapter, District and International Levels for a minimum of 25 years of Financial Membership. In addition, consideration should be given to his impact on society that has enhanced the welfare of mankind. Nominations should be accompanied by a concise and thorough documentation of the nominee’s sustained contribution and achievements to reflect lifelong service to the Fraternity.

Superior Service Award – Michael Robinson

The Superior Service Award is given to a Brother who has demonstrated outstanding contributions and concern for the activities of his Chapter and local community. The nominee must have made outstanding contributions to the Fraternity at his Chapter level and within his local community. Nominees must have served in a manner above and beyond the ordinary participation levels necessary to implement programs and projects.  Nominees should be involved with the organization, planning and implementation of programs and projects.

Omega Man of the Year Award (Graduate) – Cortez Pree

The Graduate nominee should be a Brother who has made significant contributions to his Chapter, his District and on the International level of the Fraternity. This nominee should also be one who has made significant contributions to his community.

Social Action Chapter of the Year Award – Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter

Chapters competing for the Social Action Chapter of the Year Award must submit an electronic scrap book with the following information:

(1) Each chapter must complete, at a minimum, the following seven (7) mandated programs:  Achievement Week, Scholarship, Talent Hunt Program, Memorial Service, Reclamation and Retention, NAACP and College Endowment Fund.

(2) Provide a list of the Special Emphasis Programs completed by the Chapter.

(3) Provide a list of any new Social Action Program other than mandated or Special Emphasis Programs.

Chapter of the Year Award – Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter

The Chapter of the Year Award candidate should be a Chapter that has made significant contributions on the District and the International level of the Fraternity as well as to its community. All Chapter candidates must be in good standing at the District and International levels during the immediate year prior to the award and the year of the award.  The exception would be only for Chapters that were not chartered in the prior year.

This is the 4th Year in a row, Sigma Gamma Gamma has received the 13th International District Chapter of the Year Award. The Brothers of Sigma Gamma Gamma Graduate Chapter, the 13th International District Representative Trevor Hodge and the 41st Grand Basileus David E. Marion of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. are committed to uplifting communities around the world through service and friendship. “Friendship is essential to the soul!”
