7 a.m. Friday, June 26, Japan time: Tropical Storm Higos remains forecast for a near-direct hit on Yokosuka Naval Base at mid-morning Saturday, followed by Tropical Storm Mekkhala, passing just south of Kanto Plain coastal areas at mid-evening Saturday.
At 3 a.m., Mekkhala was about 75 miles west-northwest of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, moving north-northeast at 17 mph and had weakened to 45-mph sustained winds and 60-mph gusts.
Higos, meanwhile, was about 485 miles southeast of Kadena at 3 a.m. Japan time, hurtling north-northwest at 20 mph and had strengthened to 60-mph sustained winds and 75-mph gusts.
