Volunteers heart and soul of USO

by Amber Craig

This week the Nation celebrates the relentless efforts of our Volunteer Force. During this year’s appreciation week, USO Kadena is excited to honor our volunteers.

Keiko Brantley, USO Kadena’s Volunteer Coordinator says, “Volunteers are the heart of this organization and this USO would not be this successful without their tremendous efforts!”

Volunteers are instrumental in the USO’s mission to connect service members to family, home and country. You will find our volunteers helping with customer service at our front desk and at the AMC Terminal. Without our volunteers, our special events like outdoor movies on the lawn and visits with Santa during the holidays wouldn’t be possible.

The volunteer efforts every Friday night and Saturday morning for the Patriot Express flights arriving and departing from Okinawa allow for military members and families to feel welcomed and appreciated as they report for duty or return from their overseas tours.

USO Kadena’s volunteers are primarily active duty members who are always there for their brother and sister in arms. “I want to server my Marines and the USO is a way to help serve them off duty.” Said Staff Sargent Alexsandar Ostojic, a Marine stationed at Camp Kinser and a local volunteer.

USO Kadena has over 40 volunteers who serve the military community on Okinawa. Join us as we thank and salute those who volunteer above and beyond the call of duty to support the mission of the USO.
