Amid coronavirus concerns, spring tryouts begin on Okinawa
KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa – Some DODEA-Pacific high school athletes lashed back at the concerns over novel coronavirus by beginning tryouts for the spring sports season.
Tryouts began only at two schools Saturday: baseball, softball and soccer at Kubasaki and Kadena on Okinawa. Track and field begins its tryouts on Monday, and all sports in DODEA-Japan will follow starting Monday, with Zama the last to hit the fields on Wednesday.
DODEA-Korea tryouts will have to wait, since those schools remain closed for at least another week. The decision to keep DODEA-Japan and Okinawa schools open was announced on Friday by DODEA-Pacific’s area office on Okinawa.
Schedules in all sports for all regions have yet to be announced. DODEA-Europe's spring season is scheduled to begin with soccer games on March 14.
