DODEA decides to shutter schools in Japan until April 13 amid coronavirus concerns
YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — Defense Department schools in Japan will temporarily close through spring break “out of an abundance of caution” over the coronavirus threat, officials announced Thursday.
Friday will be the last day of classes for students at schools on military installations across Japan and Okinawa, Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific East Superintendent Judy Allen said in a letter to parents Thursday. Instruction will restart on April 13.
Schools are closing in keeping with a policy of social distancing — individuals staying at least six feet apart — to stem the virus’ spread.
