Okinawa 1st Annual Community Scholarship Banquet

Members of various Greek Organizations, the National Naval Officers Association, Prince Hall Masonic Family and Diamond Hearts Outreach came together on May 19 at Kadena Officers’ Club to honor 19 members of the Class of 2018 from Kadena High School, Kubasaki High School and Okinawa Christian International School. 
Over 100 parents, family members and guests attended this event. The program began with an introduction and opening prayer followed by a buffet meal. A live band performance by Joyful Noise kept everyone entertained. After the meal, members of the class of 2018 marched in wearing their cap and gowns to Pomp and Circumstances.
High School graduate Hannah Jones performed a solo while playing her acoustic guitar.  Afterwards, guest speaker Mrs. Regina Florence Assistant Principal at Betchel Elementary School empowered the class of 2018 with insight to circumstances and situations they may face in college.
Later during the program Mr. Ostin Burris, a 10th grade student at Kubasaki High School performed a solo. Over $18,000 was presented to scholarship recipients:

In addition, members of Addalana M. Weathersby Court No. 10 provided a raffle drawing for 4 gift cards valued at $25 each for scholarship recipients. The program concluded with Minister Curtis Wilson extending a prayer and well wishes for the graduates as they prepare to start a new journey in their lives. A special thank you was given to the Diversity Council and all organizations that supported this event for college bound high school seniors.
