Ryuku Middle School students gather supplies, help Okinawa non-profit
The Ryukyu Middle School Student Council recently held a supply drive to benefit Hearts for Okinawa from February 11th to March 1st. Ryukyu Middle School is located on Kadena AB, and the Student Council is comprised of students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The students created print and video announcements for the drive, and even spoke in each classroom to encourage students and teachers to donate. The Student Council was able to collect diapers, wipes, hygiene products, and rice and noodles to help support less fortunate women and babies who were displaced or abandoned in both Okinawa and mainland Japan. All of the supplies were sorted and packed by the Student Council, and then delivered to a representative of Hearts for Okinawa. Hearts for Okinawa is a volunteer organization that collects and distributes vital supplies to local shelters for battered or abandoned women as well as local orphanages. Their mission is help women in need by connecting volunteers and donors to causes, cases, and organizations. Thanks to the generous donations from the students and teachers of RMS, we were able to help many mothers and their children. If you would like to help too, you can find the group on Facebook at Hearts for Okinawa.
