CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — The 2015 Far East Honor Music Festival Concert, featuring band, choral and orchestral performances by nearly 150 of the most accomplished student musicians across DoDEA Pacific’s 13 high schools, takes place at 7 p.m. Korea/Japan Standard Time (8 p.m. for Guam and 6 a.m. Eastern Standard Time) on April 24 at the Humphreys Middle/High School auditorium located on Camp Humphreys.

Soldiers from the U.S. 8th Army Band will be joining the students during the three-day festival held at Osan American HS and Humphreys M/HS to help them prepare for the culminating performance to be conducted by 15 DoDEA Pacific teachers. The Army Band members will provide special clinics throughout the festival to help students obtain even higher levels of music appreciation and performance capability.

The event is free and open to anyone with base access. For those unable to attend in person, the concert will be webcast live on the DoDEA Pacific Far East Streamcasting Network via the Cube platform. A broadband connection and modern web browser are required for desktops or viewers can click in from their mobile devices on a wi-fi network:

The Far East Honor Music Festival dates back to the mid-1970s when several band directors created a multi-school Honor Band composed of the most promising student musicians selected by each school. The festival was formalized as a Pacific-wide event in 1979 as the Far East Regional Honor Band before adding a 52-voice choir in 1987. The festival evolved again in 2008 by adding a string orchestra and jazz band and grew to a peak of 180 students. Today, the Far East Honor Music Festival welcomes about 150 competitively-selected students each year as the Far East Jazz Festival is now a separate event featuring band and choir members.
