UMUC Okinawa Commencement ceremony set for April 20
The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Okinawa Commencement Ceremony will take place on April 20, 2019 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Yomitan Cultural Center, Yomitan, Okinawa. Guest seating will begin at 1:30 p.m., but graduates and participants are asked to arrive no later than 11 a.m.
The ceremony will include a keynote address by Robert Koepcke, who is the Consulate General of the United States to Naha, Okinawa, Japan. Koepcke joined the State Department in 2001 and has been a career member of the Foreign Service, serving as the Director for Japan and Asian Regional Economic Affairs at the National Security Council in the White House in 2012 - 2013 prior to his current position.
James B. Cronin, UMUC vice president and director, Asia, will preside over the ceremony. Music will be provided by the University of the Ryukyus Band.
In addition to the ceremony. a post-commencement reception will be held in Yomitan Cultural Center’s Chu Hall, beginning at about 4 p.m. Due to the limited space at the Yomitan Cultural Center, we ask that each graduate bring a maximum of four guests to the ceremony and reception.
