USO Okinawa provides outreach to Camps Courtney and McTureous. The USO Okinawa Centers from Hansen, Schwab and Foster partner together to host events and programs on these camps with a focus on family programming.

The first big program on Camp Courtney in 2019 occurred on Friday, April 19th to celebrate the Month of the Military Child. To recognize military children for their sacrifices and being stationed overseas, USO Camp Foster partnered with USO Hansen and USO Schwab to host their first-ever Movie on the Lawn at Camp Courtney in the Courtney Bowl. This event was the first where three USO Okinawa centers collaborated to do outreach with the military community at Camp Courtney. The three USO centers teamed up for this special family movie night showing Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet on the big screen! The USO provided free popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, and candy bars to all who attended. The USO also served cupcakes with purple frosting, since purple symbolizes the “jointness” all branches of the military. Additionally, the USO also distributed free Disney DVDs thanks to Disney, a USO sponsor.

The children all had smiles from ear-to-ear as they were treated to a movie night and concession stand of sweets just for them! One child even told USO Okinawa staff that this was the best USO event he’s ever attended! This event was just one small way for USO Okinawa to show appreciation and applaud these amazing military children for their strength and daily sacrifices.

More recently, the USO hosted a back-to-school carnival called “Under the Big Top”. This carnival and movie on the lawn occurred on Friday, August 23. USO Okinawa centers again partnered together to host a carnival with an obstacle course-bounce house, face painting, carnival games, food (hot dogs and Domino’s pizzas), and a concession stand full of free popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy! The USO also provided door prizes including two backpacks full of school supplies, Billabong skateboards, and a Domino’s pizza party for the winner’s class. The evening ended with a movie on the lawn, premiering The Greatest Showman. Overall, it was another fun-filled event at the Courtney Bowl.

USO Okinawa will continue to partner together to provide special events and programs at camps and other installations across the island. Please follow each USO Okinawa center on Facebook page to see all the programming and events. With centers on Camp Schwab, Camp Hansen, Kadena Air Base, Camp Foster, MCAS Futenma, and Camp Kinser; there are countless programs and events occurring every week of the year.
