Domino's open for service!
CHATAN, Okinawa – The first Domino’s Pizza on Okinawa opened its doors in a March 27 ceremony at its new location in Chatan.
“Okinawa has a pizza culture,” said Kenji Ikeda, the executive vice president of marketing for Domino’s Pizza, Japan. “We believe that it’s going to be very successful.”
Ikeda added that this is only the first of several Domino’s locations scheduled to open on the island by this summer.
“It’s not only for the taste; [Domino’s] is fun. We want everyone to experience that fun,” said Ikeda.
The restaurant is located on Route 23, between Kadena Air Base and Camp Lester. Orders can be made in the store, or by calling 098-982-7921.
Domino’s cannot currently deliver aboard the military installations.
The origin of Domino’s Pizza goes back to a small pizza shop called DomiNick’s, which opened in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1960. Twenty-five years later, on Sept. 30, 1985, Domino’s Pizza opened in Tokyo’s Ebisu – Japan’s first pizza delivery store.
