KUMAMOTO, KUMAMOTO, JAPAN -- U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Major Liam D. William, Sgt. Major of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265, reads Lt. Gen. John A. Lejeune’s birthday message in honor of the 247th Marine Corps Birthday during exercise Keen Sword 23 on the flightline at Kumamoto airport, Kumamoto, Japan, Nov. 10, 2022. Keen Sword exercises the combined capabilities and lethality developed between the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, and the Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF). This bilateral field-training exercise between the U.S. military and JSDF strengthens interoperability and combat readiness of the U.S.-Japan Alliance.
