U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Walter Pitt, 18th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, tightly grips the photo of a firefighter who lost their life during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as he climbs another story of stairs in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Kadena Air Base, Japan, Sept. 11, 2021. On the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, attacks on the World Trade Center in N.Y., firefighters and members of the community participated side-by-side in a stair climb as a symbol of the heroic journey 343 firefighters took 20 years ago.
