U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 2 Austin McHalek poses for a photo after being inducted into the Honorable Order of St. Barbara during a St. Barbara’s Day ceremony on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, January 31, 2024. The St. Barbara’s day celebration is commemorated across artillery regiments in the armed forces to honor St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence and served the Artillery with selflessness. The St. Barbara’s Day ceremony was hosted by 12th Marine Littoral Regiment. McHalek, a native of Louisiana, is a motor transport officer with 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines, 3d Marine Division.
