There are a half dozen small bakeries and pastry shops concentrated along or near Route 16 as it transitions from Okinawa City into Uruma City.  Each one seems to have its own niche and a steady stream of loyal customers.

I’m a fan of food that is served sizzling hot with steam rising and oil sputtering dangerously in all directions. It’s even better if the server warns that it is very hot, or atsui des as it is said in Japan.

A side from the beaches, Okinawa doesn’t always seem much different from the other forty-six prefectures of Japan. Yet these islands had their identity shaped by centuries of contact with Pacific cultures, influencing everything from food to styles of dance.

Why do Japanese people love corn soup so much? Is it because its similarity to Chinese chicken and corn soup, French potage or the succulent sweet corn grown in Japan? At Mos Burger Japanese favourites like corn soup, matcha latte and prawn burgers sit side by side with Apple pies, cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets.

My wife is from Korea, and I lived in Korea for a total of 10 years while stationed there with the U.S. Army, so we love Korean food and we were very excited to find so many wonderful Korean restaurants here in Okinawa.

Who doesn't love pancakes? Being an American girl myself I can't resist a nice fluffy stack of perfectly golden brown goodness topped with cream and possibly something sweet. Although pancakes are not a common breakfast food here in Okinawa, or Japan for that matter, there are a few places that not only serve them up but do a great job too.
