Ah, the beauty of the flowers. The parties with friends under picturesque trees. The wonderful feeling that comes with knowing spring has arrived. There’s nothing quite like cherry blossom season in Japan.
A symbol of spring in Japan, cherry blossoms or “sakura” are enjoyed throughout Japan. The cherry blossom front moves from south (starting in February on Okinawa) to north, arriving on the Kanto Plain around the end of March and reaching Misawa by the end of April.
We’ve seen the sakura-themed Pocky, sakura-themed coffees and even sakura-themed cinnamon rolls already in Japan. Now you can add sakura and matcha donuts to the must-eat list of the spring 2021 season!
The cherry blossom forecast says it’ll be a few more weeks before our neck of the woods is pretty in pink again. But, don’t fret; you can start preparing for sakura’s arrival with a few treats available near you (or online to get shipped to you)!
In Miura Peninsula, around Komatsugaike Pond nearby Keikyu Miurakaigan Station, Kawazu Sazkura, an early blooming type of cherry blossoms are at the full bloom, hearalding the arrival of long-awaited spring.
