14th Tinian Turquoise Blue Triathlon on Feb. 15
Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands (NMI) – The Marianas Visitors Authority serves up double the fun on Tinian with the 14th Annual Tinian Turquoise Blue Triathlon and Reef Swim slated for Feb. 15, 2014, the same weekend as the 10th Tinian Hot Pepper Festival.
The triathlon will feature a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run, while the reef swim will offer three courses: 1.5 km, 3.0 km, and 4.5 km. There is no time limit for the race, offering all competitors the opportunity to enjoy the satisfaction of completing the event.
“A weekend in Tinian is one of the most relaxing vacations a person can enjoy,” said Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) Community Projects Manager Martin Duenas. “This year we decided to make the Presidents Day holiday weekend even more enticing for an escape to Tinian by offering the triathlon and reef swim for athletes and the hot pepper festival for all. It’s going to be pika (spicy)!”
The Tinian Turquoise Blue Triathlon and Reef Swim is co-sponsored by the MVA, KFC Triathlon Club of Japan, Tinian Mayor’s Office, and the Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino.
Registration costs are: $80 for solo triathletes, $60/member for triathlon teams of two or three members, and $60 for reef swim only (all distances). Registration fee includes the awards party on event day, a commemorative t-shirt, and swim cap. Registration will be held at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino poolside on Feb. 14 from 5-8 p.m., with the mandatory pre-race briefing from 6-7 p.m. at the same venue. Cash payment only. Registration forms and course maps are downloadable under the event date at the Calendar of Events at www.mymarianas.com.
The awards banquet will be held on January 15, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Kammer Beach.
